The Trans Alaska Oil Pipeline stretches nearly 800 miles from the Arctic Ocean to the Valdez bay in southcentral Alaska. Its construction was an amazing engineering feat, and the pipeline crosses mountain ranges, rivers, and vast regions of permafrost and tundra. In the treeless high arctic, it's a prominent feature of the landscape--winding on for miles and miles. Below are photos taken throughout the 800 mile stretch.
