Although sea otters along Alaska's coast were nearly brought to extinction in the late 1800s, they have recovered well. Most of the sea otters pictures were taken in southcentral Alaska, and more specifically in Prince William Sound, where they are abundant. They are thought by many to be irresistibly cute, and are therefore, are a popular photo subject for photographers.
