Although Alaska has a short summer season, wildflowers grow vigorously under the near constant sunlight. Mountain meadows are rich with diverse species with abundant variations in color and blossom type. Fireweed is among the most ubiquitous and popular, since it blooms in great fields along many of the state's roadways. It's blossoming state is locally referenced as a guide to the changing seasons.
