Alaska is unique in that it is home to all three main species of bears. The grizzly bear is common to the Interior and Arctic and the brown bears are found in the coastal areas. Black bears inhabit the forested and coastal regions and are the smallest of the three bear species. The polar bear lives along the Arctic coast and offshore ice pack.
